Human Trafficking: The Dark Reality

A Life of Daily Violence

What many don’t see is the Horror behind closed doors. Trafficked girls endure daily rape and abuse — a torment that often continues until they:

  • Are too physically broken to work
  • Succumb to death
  • Or are miraculously rescued

This is not a distant issue. This is happening now.

Global and National Scope

  • Over 27 million people worldwide are enslaved today — forced into labor, sexual exploitation, or both.
  • According to Warning Lights, human trafficking is the second-largest criminal enterprise in Michigan and affects 161+ countries warninglights.org
  • UNICEF estimates 2 million children are trafficked each year. warninglights.org+2UNODC+2
  • In the U.S., nearly 400,000 children are at risk of commercial sexual exploitation each year. warninglights.org
  • Many reports place the average age of entry into sexual exploitation around 11–14 years old. org+2warninglights.org+2
  • Some sources suggest 12 years old is the average age when young people enter sex trafficking. oag.dc.gov

Myths vs. Reality

Myth: “It doesn’t happen here.”
Reality: It’s happening in our cities, in our neighborhoods, sometimes hidden in plain sight.

Myth: “Victims could leave if they wanted to.”
Reality: Fear, trauma, threats, lack of access, and years of manipulation keep them enslaved.

Myth: “It’s just poverty or bad decisions.”
Reality: Traffickers prey on vulnerability — broken homes, trafficking through manipulation, deception, or false promises.

A Word from Scripture & Legacy

“Free those who are wrongly imprisoned; lighten the burden of those who work for you. Let the oppressed go free and remove the chains that bind people.” — Isaiah 58:6

“Deliver the poor and needy; rescue them out of the hand of the wicked.” — Psalm 82:4

Christian heritage echoes this call. William Wilberforce once said:

“You may choose to look the other way, but you can never say again that you did not know.”

Knowing brings responsibility.

Why This Demand Our Attention

  • Every statistic represents a living, breathing soul made in God’s image.
  • Less than 1% of trafficked girls ever make it out on their own.
  • The average age of trafficking (11–14) suggests children are being stolen from childhood itself.
  • Silence and ignorance allow this evil to persist.

At God Who Sees Ministries, these truths fuel our urgency.
We stand in the darkness — eyes open, hearts moved — and declare: You are seen. You are loved. You can be free.

We refuse to be silent. We refuse to back away.
Because somebody has to go in. Somebody has to speak. Somebody has to rescue.
